Spartans strong at Regionals, Some JV State results posted

Toby Mosley, Jordan Stanek and Matt Tourdot led the way for Sparta taking home regional titles Saturday in Tomah.  As a team, the Spartans finished third--13 points behind 2nd place Reedsburg and 27.5 points behind champion Tomah.It was probably safe to say that not many people were expecting Toby Mosley to come in and dominate his Regional bracket in the way he did, but that's absolutely what he did.  The freshman 125-pounder received a first-round bye then wasted no time in pinning Reedsburg's Lucas Johnson in 1:39.  Next up was the championship match against La Crosse Central's Cal Thornton.  Thornton entered the match with a 31-7 record, but that didn't mean anything to Mosley who powered his way to a 10-5 victory.At 152 pounds, Jordan Stanek beat a trio of MVC wrestlers to win his first regional title.  Stanek opened up the day with a tech fall victory over Alex Wilson of La Crosse Central before pounding Tomah's Joey Organ 7-3.  Organ defeated Stanek earlier this year in the dual at Sparta by a score of 4-1.  Sweet revenge.  In the championship match, Stanek defeated La Crosse Logan's Cody Olson 6-4.Finally at 189-pounds, Matt Tourdot received a first-round bye and then cruised to a 31 second pin in the semifinal round before defeating Reedsburg's Cody Jasper 2-1 in the championship match.On the day, Sparta qualified 10 wrestlers for sectionals.  Adam Weidl, Derek McDonald, Toby Mosley, Tom Tourdot, Morgan Leis, Jordan Stanek, Brandon Brueggen, Matt Tourdot, Kevin Schmitz and Aaron Freeman will also wrestle Saturday in Middleton.Check below for full results...==========103  --  Bryce Nowaczyk, 0-2, Did Not Place112  --  Adam Weidel, 2-2 with two pins, 4th Place119  --  Derek McDonald, 3-1 with three pins, 2nd Place125  --  Toby Mosley, 3-0 with a pin, 1st Place130  --  Jesse Amundson, 0-2, Did Not Place135  --  Logan Denasha, 2-2, 5th Place140  --  Tom Tourdot, 1-2 with a win by Rule, 4th Place145  --  Morgan Leis, 2-2 with a pin and major decision, 3rd Place152  --  Jordan Stanek, 3-0 with a tech fall, 1st Place160  --  Nick Anderson, 0-2, Did Not Place171  --  Brandon Brueggen, 2-2 with a pin, 3rd Place189  --  Matt Tourdot, 3-0 with a pin, 1st Place215  --  Kevin Schmitz, 2-1 with two pins, 2nd Place285  --  Aaron Freeman, 2-2, 3rd PlaceTeam Scores:  Tomah 206, Reedsburg 191.5, Sparta 178.5, La Crosse Logan 152, Holmen 151.5, Osseo-Fairchild/Altoona/Augusta 86, La Crosse Central 82.5, Onalaska 51==========Sparta will have the week off as they prepare for the Sectional tournament Saturday in Middleton.  The top two placewinners from each bracket there will qualify for the state tournament.Speaking of state tournaments, Spartan wrestling fan Pat Stevenson was nice enough to email some of the results from the "JV State" tournament.  Thansk Pat!  Here they are...Steve Stevenson won the 190-194 weight bracket with an 0:18 pin over a kid from Hartland Arrowhead, a 1:48 pin over a kid from Waunakee and a 3:36 pin over a kid from Cambridge to finish the season with a record of 16-1 on JV.Derek VonRuden also won his bracket and so did Clinton LaBeause.  Isaac Borreson, Xavier Lopez and Margo Degenhardt all finished 1-2 on the day.
