New season is upon us
🤼 Sparta Wrestling Returns: Ranked Vets and Eager Rookies Fuel the 2026-27 Season
The mats are ready, the lights are up, and Sparta Wrestling is officially coming back strong for another highly anticipated season.
Mark your calendars: official practices kick off on Monday, November 16th, with the first Quad at HOME on December 1st, 2026!
While November 16th marks the official start of the winter season, the team hasn't actually stopped. Throughout the off-season, many of our dedicated wrestlers have been putting in heavy mat time with elite clubs, intense summer camps, and high-level regional competitions to sharpen their skills and conditioning.
👑 The Veteran Core: Four Returning Seniors
Leadership will be the ultimate X-factor for Sparta this year. The program is proud to lean on the experience, grit, and leadership of four standout returning seniors:
Veda Lepley
Mathew Kuderer
Wyatt Derkez
Oliver Mulvaney
These veterans are tasked not just with hunting down individual podium finishes, but with anchoring the culture for the next generation of Sparta athletes.
🔥 The Powerhouse Engine: Ranked Juniors & Sophomores
We can't forget the incredibly dynamic group of underclassmen returning to the lineup this winter. This class brings serious firepower, with four standout wrestlers already earning pre-season state rankings:
Pearce Mathison-Jr. (4th at 126)
Alex Kuderer - So. (6th at 106)
Hunter Huntington - Jr. (6th at 190)
Kai Jacobson - So. (11th at 113)
Having this much firepower in the middle of our lineup gives Sparta a massive edge in dual meets and tournament scoring.
🌱 Fresh Blood: An Eager Rookie Class
Complementing our ranked roster is a large, eager group of incoming freshmen. Bringing high energy, raw athleticism, and a hunger to learn, this rookie class is ready to inject a brand-new wave of excitement into the wrestling room.
The unique blend of senior leadership, proven underclassmen dominance, and fresh ambition promises to make this season incredibly competitive from day one.
