Spartans dismantle Hilltoppers 62-15

The Spartans improved to 9-0 on the year and 5-0 in the MVC with a 62-15 victory over Onalaska/Luther Tuesday evening in a dual that had been rescheduled twice because of inclement weather.  The Spartans have never lost to the Hilltoppers and are 31-0 all-time since their first meeting dating back to the 1972-73 season.Onalaska held the briefest of leads as Hilltopper heavyweight and D1 7th-ranked Houston Dorn pinned Gabe Dearman in 1:02 to open up action, but it was Sparta the rest of the way.Sparta would win 11 of the next 13 matches--two by forfeit, seven by pin, one by technical fall--to remain undefeated in MVC action heading into Thursday's showdown with Holmen that will decide the MVC championship.Jon Bailey moved up two weight classes to defeat a tough Aaron Raabe 8-2 while Jaden Winchel earned a takedown two seconds into his match against Micah LeFebre.  Outside of that, it was a lot of fist and second period pins for the Spartans sandwiched around a Matt Fahning technical fall.Full results are below...285  -  Houston Dorn(Onalaska/Luther) pinned Gabe Dearman in 1:02106  -  Vince Polhamus won by forfeit113  -  Blake Brooks pinned Garrett Harper(Onalaska/Luther) in 2:51120  -  Jakob Larson won by forfeit126  -  Jon Bailey defeated Aaron Raabe (Onalaska/Luther) 8-2132  -  Kyle Erickson pinned Nick Goldbeck(Onalaska/Luther) in 0:56138  -  David Hayes pinned Brian Stewert (Onalaska/Luther) in 2:36145  -  Jaden Winchel pinned Micah LeFebre (Onalaska/Luther) in 1:08152  -  Kaden Cordry (Onalaska/Luther) pinned Joe Lopez in 2:08160  -  Mathias Krein pinned Samuel Christenson (Onalaska/Luther) in 1:17170  -  Matt Fahning won by technical fall over Nom Yang (Onalaska/Luther) 18-1, 4:20182  -  Jacob Udermann (Onalaska/Luther) defeated Jack Ruedy 7-1195  -  Austin Zwiefel pinned Quincy Parker (Onalaska/Luther) in 2:37220  -  Garet Pfaff pinned Jake Blum (Onalaska/Luther) in 3:11FINAL:  SPARTA 62  -  ONALASKA 15Sparta has today off before hosting Holmen tomorrow evening in a dual that will decide the MVC championship.  Last year, Holmen prevailed 38-31 in Holmen.  It will be the 12th time in the 27-year history of the MVC that Sparta and Holmen will finish the conference season as the top two teams.  Expect a lot of people, a close dual and another exciting night of wrestling.  We will have a live stream of the dual and will post a recap along with pictures shortly after.  Go Spartans!!
