Roddick, Dawley lead Spartans to 3rd place at Reedsburg

Wrestling without Dylan Winchel and Tristan Zurfluh and without any wrestler at 138 pounds, Sparta finished third Saturday at the Reedsburg Scramble.  Leading the way for the Spartans was 120-pounder John Roddick and 195-pounder Dan Dawley.  Both went 5-0 on the day with Dawley picking up five pins and Roddick three pins and a major decision.  Brock Polhamus, Michael Murnane, Kyle Burkhalter and Joseph Benish were all 4-1 on the day.  Summarized results are below...106  --  Trygve Zurfluh, 3rd Place, 3-2 with a pin and tech fall113  --  Corey Zimmerman, 4th Place, 2-3120  --  John Roddick, 1st Place, 5-0 with three pins and a major decision126  --  Justin Marx, 6th Place, 1-4 with a pin132  --  Brock Polhamus, 2nd Place, 4-1 with three pins138  --  NO WRESTLER145  --  Michael Murnane, 2nd Place, 4-1 with two pins152  --  Dillon Erickson, 7th Place, 1-4 with a pin160  --  Walker Polhamus, 6th Place, 2-3 with a pin170  --  Greg Skon, 5th Place, 2-3 with a pin182  --  Kyle Burkhalter, 2nd Place, 4-1 with two pins195  --  Dan Dawley, 1st Place, 5-0 with five pins220  --  Chase Bernett, 6th Place, 2-3 with a pin285  --  Joseph Benish, 2nd Place, 4-1 with two pinsTeam Scores:  Lancaster 205.5, Middleton 184, Sparta 179.5, Weston 162.5, Reedsburg 128.5, Monroe 123.5, Racine Horlick 105, Westby 101, Oregon 53Some good victories on the day for the Spartans include Murnane's 4-2 victory over Kevin Klopfenstein and Dawley's pin in 1:43 over Weston's Atticus Sharp.  Klopfenstein was a state qualifier last year and would regularly give Derek VonRuden fits.  Sharp has been a solid wrestler for Weston and defeated Dawley 8-3 last year in Sparta's dual against Weston and defeated Burkhalter two years ago 3-2 in Sparta.Due to injuries and other reasons, the Spartans probably won't be at full strength until after Christmas, but it was encouraging to see the team competitive despite not being at full strength.  Next up for the Spartans is the MVC-opener at La Crosse Logan on Thursday.
