Ruedy leads Spartans at Wisconsin Challenge Series Finals

Five Spartans competed in the finals of the Wisconsin Challenge Series and all left with .500 records or better with junior Jack Ruedy leading the way with a fourth place finish.

Ruedy’s first two matches were pins before he slipped by Elkhorn’s Jon Palmer with a 6-4 victory in the quarterfinals.  Ruedy fell in the semifinals via injury default and had to forfeit his 3rd place match to finish the day 3-1.

Vince Polhamus, Sam Forbes and Cole Wisniewski all nabbed consolation championships and each finished the day with one loss apiece.  Wisniewski’s three victories were all via first period pin while Forbes’ victories came by way of a pin and a major decision.  At 195 pounds, Bronson Stark finished 2-2 on the day and fell won victory short of a spot in the consolation championship.

Summarized results are below…

106  –  Vince Polhamus, Consolation Champion, 4-1
138  –  Sam Forbes, Consolation Champion, 3-1 with a pin and major decision
160  –  Cole Wisniewski, Consolation Champion, 3-1 with three pins
182  –  Jack Ruedy, 4th Place, 3-1 with two pins
195  –  Bronson Stark, Did Not Place, 2-2 with a pin

It was a very good day of wrestling for the Spartans as these brackets featured 375 wrestlers from 106 teams from around Wisconsin.  Placing, finishing as consolation champion or simply walking away with a .500 or winning record is quite the accomplishment.

There are a few more opportunities to catch the JV in action this year.  They will wrestle before duals against Onalaska and Holmen this week as well as the JV MVC tournament at Onalaska a week from today.
