Sparta 7th grader Jon Bailey is competing this weekend in the USAW Kids Folkstyle Nationals in Cedar Rapids, IA. Jon is competing in the Schoolboy 105 lb. class.
In the first round of 64 Jon received a bye; in round 2 he defeated Noah Hunt from Bloomington, IN. 8-4 to move into the round of 16. In the 3rd round Jon defeated Christian Minto from Cape Coral, Florida 5-0. In quarterfinal action Jon defeated Brett Benton from Casper, Wyoming 2-0 to move into the semi-finals. In the semi-finals this morning Jon lost to Tyler Eischens from Anoka, MN by fall in 1:30. Eischens, was a varsity wrestler for Anoka High School this past season as an 8th grader. He finished 2nd in the District 7 AAA Sectional and qualifying for the State High School Tournament.
Jon will continue through wrestlebacks today having already guaranteed himself at least a 6th place National finish and still a chance for 2nd.
