Rickert_3

Spartan Jared Rickert captured his second conseuctive Bi-State Classic title, this one at 145-pounds, to improve to 24-0 on the season leading the Spartans to a 5th place team finish in Division One and a tie for 9th place overall. The team finish was a vast improvement over last year’s 12th place finish in Division One and 36th place team finish.

While the road to the championship came easy for Rickert (4 pins, 1 tech fall), the final was anything but.  The first period ended with no score and Rickert held on to a slim lead entering the final frame.  However, with about 30 seconds to go in the match, Rickert took down Crawford/Seneca’s Brent Hartley handing him his first loss of the season and winning the match 3-1.

Other Spartans to medal included Derek McDonald, Jeff Dolan, Michael Jacobsen, Trevor Hutson and Quincy Degenhardt.

Sparta will be off for just over a week before returning to MVC action in a road dual Thursday, January 7 at La Crosse Logan.  Check back later this week for photos from Bi-State.  I’m not going to lie here, but it might be a week before any photos are up.  I probably took more photos during these past two days than the entire season combined, but when they do go up I’ll post it here.
